Private Walking Tours in Cologne Germany

More than a tour —
An introduction to the city.

A walk with a local through icons, hidden corners, and quiet streets. A Kölsch in a real brewhouse and tastings of what Kölner actually eat. And stories — the kind you won't find in any guidebook.

Included in Your Tour

Stories, sips, and small bites.

Our Guide

"Köln ist kein Ort. Es ist ein Gefühl."

Cologne isn't a place. It's a feeling.

I'm Stephanie Biernat, and I have been showing people the magic of Cologne since 2004. What started as a passion project became Sehenswert — one of Cologne's leading event and tour agencies, built on the belief that the best way to know a city is through the people who live it.

I know which brewhouse the locals actually go to. I know the courtyard most people walk past every day without ever looking in. I know the stories behind the statues, the street art, the buildings. And I love telling them.

Private Tour Cologne was born from years of seeing corporate groups fall in love with this city — and wanting to offer the same quality experience to every curious traveller who visits.

Frequently asked questions

Everything you might want to know before booking a private walking tour in Cologne.

How long is the Cologne Private Tour?
The private walking tour lasts about three hours and covers roughly 3 km of easy, flat walking through Cologne's old town and surrounding neighbourhoods — comfortable for most fitness levels.
How much does a private walking tour in Cologne cost?
A private tour in Cologne costs €350 for groups of 2 to 4 guests and €400 for groups of 5 to 8 guests. The price is per group, not per person, and includes the guide, three to four tastings, and one drink.
What languages is the tour offered in?
Tours are guided in English by default. German and Spanish are available on request — please let us know when you book.
What's included in the price?
Included is a private local guide for about three hours, three to four small tastings of what locals actually eat (always a good loaf from a small family bakery), and one drink — a traditional Kölsch in a real Cologne brewery, or a non-alcoholic local alternative.
Where does the tour start? Is there a fixed meeting point?
There is no fixed meeting point. Most guests prefer hotel pickup; we can also meet you at an address or landmark that fits your day in Cologne. Tell us your preference when you book.
How do I book a private tour in Cologne?
Pick an available date in our calendar and contact us by WhatsApp at +49 173 966 58 31 or by email at office@privatetourcologne.com. We confirm within a few hours. Bookings are taken only by WhatsApp or email — there is no online booking system at the moment.
What is your cancellation policy?
Cancellation is free up to 48 hours before the tour. Just send us a quick message by WhatsApp or email and we'll release the date.
Is the tour suitable for people with limited mobility?
The walking is easy and on mostly flat streets, but parts of Cologne's Altstadt have cobblestones. We are happy to adapt the route, pace, and stops to your needs — please mention any mobility considerations when you book.
Can families with children join the tour?
Yes. Because the tour is private, we tailor the pace, stories, and tastings to your group — including families with children of any age.
Do you run tours in bad weather?
Yes. Cologne is a year-round city and the experience holds up in rain, cold, or heat. We adjust the route to spend more time indoors — in covered courtyards, brewery halls, or markets — when needed.
Can you accommodate food allergies or dietary preferences?
Yes. Vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, halal, and other dietary preferences are easy to accommodate at the small bakeries and producers we work with. Tell us when you book and we'll adjust the tastings.
How is this different from a group walking tour in Cologne?
A private tour means your party only — no strangers, no fixed script. We adjust the pace, the route, and the stops in real time to what interests you, and your guide gives you their full attention for the entire three hours.
What are the best sightseeing spots in Cologne?
Cologne's must-see sights include the Cathedral (Germany's most visited landmark), the twelve Romanesque churches, the Hohenzollern Bridge with its love locks, and the Rhine promenade. Our private walking tour covers the iconic highlights along with hidden corners of the Old Town that most visitors walk right past — courtyards, medieval gateways, and street art that only locals know about.
How is a private walking tour different from sightseeing on my own?
You can absolutely explore Cologne on your own — the Old Town is compact and walkable. But a private tour gives you three hours of local stories, context, and insider knowledge you won't find in any guidebook or app. We take you to spots that don't appear on tourist maps, adjust the route to your interests, and include food tastings and a Kölsch in a real brewhouse along the way.
What will I see on a private sightseeing tour of Cologne?
Every tour is tailored to your group, but most tours include the Cathedral and its surroundings, the narrow lanes and hidden courtyards of the Altstadt, the Hohenzollern Bridge, a traditional Cologne brewhouse, street art in the Belgian Quarter area, and several local food stops. We adjust the route in real time based on what interests you most.
Is Cologne worth visiting for a day?
Absolutely. Cologne's Old Town is compact enough to experience in a single day, and a three-hour private tour is a great way to make the most of your time. Many of our guests visit Cologne as a day trip or stopover — the main train station is right next to the Cathedral, so you can start exploring the moment you arrive.
